The Auckland museum is rather nice. It is laid out in such a way that it's very easy to miss things or features in it though. (like the "tree house" in the children's area which has extra displaies inside, but you have to climb up the inside to find them or the volcano house, which I'm embrassed to say took me a couple of visits before I managed to find it).
